Retropalooza 2019

As I mentioned a bit ago, we went to Retropalooza. It's one of Toby's must-do's for the fall season. It was my first time going. I think it was the third time he and the big kids have gone and the second time Anthony has gone.

They tell me that it was less well-attended this year by people, vendors, and celebrities. That was a shame. That said, Pixel Dan was there and that was Anthony's major goal - to see Pixel Dan again this year as he had last year.

Just before going over to meet him, Anthony scored a Technodrome - a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spaceship thing. I don't know. But he does. And, Pixel Dan does.

Anthony and Pixel Dan spent some time exploring the Technodrome and discussing what was and was not missing. They both seemed in their element.

Pixel Dan autographed the Technodrome!

Anthony met Pixel Dan last year and brought a backpack full of Grossery Gang toys to show him. Anthony got into that "toy line" because of Pixel Dan's reviews of them. Pixel Dan actually remembered Anthony. Here are a few pics of last year.

Many attend these things in costume - or cos play - but we did not. I must have really looked out of place in my cardigan, jeans, and driving mocs, because one vendor looked at me, almost with sympathy, and said, "So, did they drag you here?" I said I was just here tagging along. I didn't think I said that with any particular tone, because I was enjoying it actually. But he responded, "My wife could commiserate." Haha! I'm not sure how I was supposed to look, but whatever it was, I wasn't looking like it.

There were some amusing things to me along the way.

And both Anthony and Lucy found other trinkets.

But the highlight was definitely Pixel Dan and the Technodrome.

Toby caught an awesome pic of Billy Mitchell - who even I knew by reputation having watched the documentary about him, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.

I was amused by this photo that Toby took because it is his same pose from his Wikipedia page. Toby was mildly concerned that the guy behind Mitchell was his body guard and going to come over and kick his butt. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

I got to see him as well. He's rather....intense. I like PacMan, too, though so I can appreciate that.

This is me playing PacMan non-stop at the Let's Play Gaming Expo in 2018. I played so much I had a blister on my middle finger. Not kidding. (We missed it this year because we were on our family vacation at that time.)

Anthony and I left after meeting Pixel Dan. He was eager to get home and play with his new stuff, which he did in the car all the way home. Toby and the big kids stayed for a bit longer. I was so amused as we were leaving and Anthony was carrying this enormous vintage toy. Grown men would stop short and stare at the Technodrome and mouth, "Wow" or "The Technodrome." We were frequently stopped and asked about it. Of course, we showed off the Pixel Dan autograph and everyone knew who that was. It was so funny to me!

Once home, Anthony had his "quiet time" playing.

And, another one of our fall events was attended and enjoyed!

Later that night, Toby got costumes for those who needed them. But more on that in my Halloween post.

Thanks for reading!
