Leap Day Morning Walk at Andrew Brown Park (February 29, 2020)

Toby discovered Andrew Brown Park and we headed there for a morning walk on Leap Day! There are three parts to the park - West, Central, and East. We walked on the East part. It was very pretty with open areas, wooded areas, and a large lake.

Here are some of my highlights of that nice early spring morning out; Toby's are here.

I liked the sun peaking out over the roof, as well as the bare, wintry looking trees.

A very, very nice and new pavilion.

The trees were budding out a bit, a sure sign of imminent spring.

These were the most interesting ducks to me. I've never seen this species before. Toby got some great close-ups of them. They are apparently Greater Scaups, but have a bluer bill to our eyes than what you see here.

Here's one of the videos of them swimming around busily and largely in formation:

Toby getting his great shots.

Mallards are my favorite, probably because of the green heads of the males. Look at this shot Toby got.

A Bradford Pear blooming. They get a bad rap, but they are pretty trees.

A close up of Bradford Pear flowers. Here's Toby's much more detailed shot. There is no substitute for a proper camera for such photography.

I like to catch light through the trees. This was not my best effort.

That was a hawk that was not being cooperative in term of getting his photograph taken.

I liked the sun behind the wispy clouds and the striking blue sky.

Cormorants. Toby got a few close-ups of them.

This is what Toby was shooting there.

Trees leafing out.

It was early in spring, but there were signs everywhere.

There is a lot to this park.

Turtles, among the most skittish of creatures to photograph.

Toby is trying to sneak up on his intended subject.

See the two little heads? Toby got the big one up close.

At one point there were four, which Toby got. They scattered quickly for...turtles.

Toby also got a close up of this one, I think.

There are several funky, modern art instillations.

Another thing I love to photograph again and again are trees against a blue sky, whether in bloom or the sun peaking through or something like that.

And so that was our first (and so far, only) walk. We intend to explore this pretty vast park again soon.

Thanks for reading!
